Scenery & data sources

The waterfront and VC races use modeled scenery on OpenStreetMap street and building geometry. South Park’s landscaping is a reference-based approximation. A ten-view Street View survey of January 2025 imagery informed the address-specific facade colors, windows, entrance paving and winter tree silhouettes. Dimensions and obscured details remain approximate. The climbing structure’s location and plan dimensions follow OpenStreetMap way 549848249; its vertical model is approximate. Building facades, concrete slab patterns, curb shapes and ramp transitions are modeled details, not a photographic or surveyed replica.

Waterfront route survey

Twelve additional Street View views along Second, Brannan, the Bay Trail promenade, King and Third informed the pier and warehouse facades, paving, bike lanes, transit lane and ballpark frontage. Imagery dates range from April 2022 to May 2025. Trees, palms, lamps, light rail tracks, park boundaries and the Oracle Park perimeter use OpenStreetMap positions. Tree shapes, fixture styles, lawn edges, facade elevations and lane widths remain modeled approximations; the stadium perimeter is not a surveyed facade line. The park refinement also uses five park views (including two user-contributed 2019 panoramas), mapped paths and benches, Brannan Wharf’s lawn polygon and canopy footprint, and the mapped Sea Change artwork location. Lawn slopes, planting edges, bench orientation and sculpture shape are approximations. These are reference-informed 3D models, not photographs or a complete digital replica.

Road markings

Crosswalks and bicycle facilities use OpenStreetMap crossing paths, cycleway tags and separate cycle-track geometry. Explicitly unpainted or unknown crossings are not painted. Lane sides follow map tags; widths and road-side offsets are fitted to the game’s simplified roads. Second Street’s green paint, divider posts and double yellow line are based on the supplied May 2025 Street View reference. Other lanes are not assumed to be green.

Traffic controls

Traffic signal and stop-control locations come from OpenStreetMap nodes tagged “highway=traffic_signals” or “highway=stop”. This local data snapshot was retrieved September 12, 2026. Only mapped controls are included; missing controls are not filled in with guesses.

These nodes often identify a controlled intersection or stop line rather than the physical pole. Pole offsets, mounting heights, fixture models and orientations are representative and inferred from road geometry. They are not verified physical fixture positions. Signal colors are static game scenery, not real-time traffic information.

Parking meters and drains have not been added without location data. The racing course is fictional closed-course gameplay, not a navigation service.

Privacy

The main races do not stream Google imagery or request your physical location. Controls and timing run in your browser. If you submit a score, your name, time, racer, finishing place, and optional X profile are saved in Supabase and shown publicly on the leaderboard.

PostHog measures page views and game activity, including race starts, finishes, and sharing. A browser identifier helps count returning visitors. We do not send your leaderboard name or X profile with these events, and session recording is disabled. The game is hosted on Cloudflare. See the PostHog Privacy Policy.

The older kart experiment can stream Google Maps imagery. When used, Google receives imagery requests, including IP address and browser information, subject to the Google Maps terms and Google Privacy Policy.
